Assam Rifles, CRPF, and Manipur Police conducted a coordinated operation that led to the voluntary surrender of firearms and ammunition in Jiribam, marking a significant step towards restoring peace and stability in the area. Security personnel worked together with civil society organizations and community leaders to enable the safe surrender of unlawfully owned firearms when the Governor of Manipur appealed and President’s Rule was imposed.

This led to the voluntary surrender of numerous firearms and ammunition, including five domestically manufactured single-barrel firearms, one Magnum 12-bore double-barrel firearm, twenty-seven 12-bore cartridges, sixteen 7.62x51mm rounds, fifteen 7.62x39mm rounds, two 5.56mm rounds, and one AK-47 and SLR magazine. The recovery of a sizable arsenal of weapons and ammunition in Jiribam and the surrounding territories was made possible in large part by the Assam Rifles. The capitulation advances the region’s path towards reconciliation and long-term peace by demonstrating the confidence in the security forces and the government’s attempts to resolve the conflict.
