In a significant security operation, the Assam Rifles recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and 19 gelatine sticks in Churachandpur district, Manipur. Officials confirmed that the explosives were discovered in two separate locations, raising fresh concerns over security in the violence-hit region.

According to police sources, the first cache of explosives, including gelatine sticks, was found in a village located 10 kilometers from Churachandpur town. The second IED was detected near a roadside culvert in another village.

Security personnel promptly defused both explosive devices, preventing any potential threats to public safety. The Assam Rifles and local police are now investigating the source of these explosives and whether they were intended for subversive activities in the troubled district.

Manipur has been grappling with ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023, resulting in over 250 deaths and thousands displaced. The unrest led to the imposition of President’s Rule on February 13, 2025, following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
