Representatives of internally-displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur have urged the state government to hasten the resettlement of all IDPs before the December 2025 deadline. They submitted a memorandum to the Governor and Chief Secretary, reminding them of their commitment to complete the resettlement, as discussed in previous meetings with IDP representatives and endorsed by COCOMI. Currently, IDPs are participating in a relay sit-in strike in Uripok, Imphal, demanding not only resettlement but also the restoration of their fundamental rights within this timeframe.
While the IDPs acknowledged some progress in resettlement efforts in specific areas, they emphasised that thousands remain displaced and the protests will persist until comprehensive resettlement is achieved. They called for tangible actions rather than merely administrative announcements to rebuild their confidence and facilitate their safe return to their homes, ensuring dignity and restoration of infrastructure.
