The Kangpokpi District Internally Displaced Welfare Committee (KDIDWC) has deemed the March 31, 2026, deadline for the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as unrealistic, citing a lack of basic infrastructure in proposed resettlement areas, such as schools, hospitals, and roads. The Committee emphasized that displaced families cannot be expected to return or rebuild their lives under these conditions. It urged the government to prioritize constructing vital roads connecting key areas like Kangchup and Phailengmol, asserting that road connectivity is essential for effective resettlement. The KDIDWC also criticized the ₹3 lakh housing assistance provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin as inadequate and called for a revision to enable IDPs to rebuild their homes with dignity. Additionally, the Committee demanded the release of damage assessment forms, timely compensation payments, and greater transparency in the resettlement process with community leader involvement. The impact on education was highlighted, noting a severe disruption to displaced children’s schooling due to a lack of facilities in Kangpokpi district. The Committee called for dedicated funding for schools and educational support. It stressed the necessity of adequate funding and a clear resettlement roadmap, insisting that IDPs should not be treated merely as statistics, and reaffirmed its commitment to advocate for their rights until tangible measures are implemented.
