Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh participated in the nationwide launch of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign against Cervical Cancer at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal East. The program, initiated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Ajmer, Rajasthan, underscores the government’s commitment to preventive healthcare for young women. Before this event, the Chief Minister inaugurated 33 ambulances aimed at enhancing maternity services in various districts, funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC).

During the launch, he toured the vaccination facility, interacted with healthcare professionals, and presented a vaccination certificate to a recipient. The HPV vaccine, administered to girls aged 14-15 as a single-dose schedule, plays a crucial role in preventing HPV infection, the primary cause of cervical cancer, which is among the most prevalent cancers affecting women. The initiative is seen as a significant advancement in safeguarding the health of future generations, with prominent officials including Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh and Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel also in attendance.
