The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) released statements regarding the January 8 gunfire incident that falsely attempted to depict the situation as an act of intimidation against so-called “innocent villagers.” The Zeliangrong United Front (S Kamson) has rejected these statements, claiming that they are deceptive and do not accurately reflect the actual circumstances that exist on the ground.According to a statement from ZUF (S Kamson), reliable and confirmed information shows that Kuki underground groups have systematically built hardened bunkers at village access points, home courtyards, and across the surrounding territories. It claimed that any attempt to describe these areas as exclusively civilian or non-combatant zones is fundamentally contradicted by their intentional militarization.
The group voiced serious concerns about the reported acts of KNF-P cadres, which included vandalism of Ireng Zeliangrong Inpui Naga Village’s public infrastructure, including the waiting shed and other properties, as well as purported threats to burn down the entire village and injure its citizens. It stated that such acts are a blatant violation of indigenous land rights and public safety, as well as grave breaches of law and order. ZUF reaffirmed that force or propaganda cannot be used to justify encroachment on ancestral territory that is accompanied by coercion, intimidation, or the falsification of indigenous status. The group stated that it will not stand by when unlawful invasion, organized crime, or the existence of illegal drug networks occur inside its ancestral area. The group reiterated its steadfast dedication to protecting its citizens, territory, and assets against any kind of unlawful intrusion. It further said that the Zeliangrong Inpui people’s ancient legacy is untouchable and cannot be compromised in any way.
