The 35th Annual Yaoshang Sports Meet 2026, organized by the Local Upliftment Committee (LUC) Club, concluded at Maibi Lampak in Thiyam Leishangkhong, Yumnam Huidrom. This event was part of the Yaoshang festival and spanned three days. A highlight of the closing program was the “Thouri Chingnaba Changdam Competition,” a traditional tug-of-war event held under the Wangoi Kendra. This competition attracted a total of 15 teams from various localities within the Wangoi Kendra area.
The closing ceremony saw the presence of notable figures such as former Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh, Retired Teacher Huidrom Sindur Singh, and municipal council representatives Huidrom Shyamchand Singh and Yumnam Jamuna Devi, along with a large audience of local residents. The competition commenced with an inauguration by Oinam Lukhoi Singh, who also participated in the distribution of consolation prizes for all teams that competed.
In the final showdown of the tug-of-war competition, the Samarou Makha Leikai Meira Paibi team triumphed over the Samushang Santipur Meira Paibi team, securing the championship title. The champions were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, while the runners-up received Rs. 6,000. The prizes were officially presented by Oinam Lukhoi Singh to the winning teams, underscoring the spirit of participation and community engagement during the festivities.
