Assam Rifles has initiated a commendable effort to promote peace and harmony in Manipur through the National Integration Tour (NIT), aimed at fostering national unity and empowering the youth. This significant milestone was highlighted by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla during the flag-in ceremony at New Keithelmanbi Garrison, attended by senior officials from Assam Rifles, Police, parents, and participants of the tour.
The tour, organized under Operation Sadbhavana by the 33 Assam Rifles, commenced on March 3, 2026, with a ceremonial flag-off by Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh. A diverse group of 24 youths from the districts of Imphal, Thoubal, Noney, and Kangpokpi embarked on a journey to Kolkata, where they experienced communal harmony during Ramadan Iftar on Zakaria Street, enjoyed a ferry ride on the Hooghly River, and visited iconic landmarks such as Howrah Bridge and Millennium Park.
Subsequently, the participants traveled to Thiruvananthapuram by train on March 6. There, they interacted with the Governor of Kerala and explored various notable cultural, scientific, and scenic destinations, including the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Vizhinjam Lighthouse, and Kovalam Beach. On March 8, the entourage visited Pangode Military Station and the Priyadarshini Planetarium before heading to Kanyakumari to witness the southernmost tip of mainland India and the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.
The tour continued to Mumbai, where participants experienced local life through a ride on Mumbai’s local trains and visited landmarks such as the Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Marine Drive, and the Bandra Worli Sea Link. The tour culminated back in Kolkata with an interaction at the Command Headquarters, Eastern Command of the Indian Army.
In his address, Governor Bhalla commended the Assam Rifles for their community-centered approach and steadfast dedication to nurturing harmony and national integration. He emphasized the invaluable role these tours play in broadening youth perspectives, instilling self-confidence, and promoting unity in diversity. Bhalla also acknowledged the focus on encouraging female participants, recognizing them as vital agents of social change.
The Deputy Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) underscored the tour’s significance in delivering messages of peace and cultural harmony. He regarded the participants as ambassadors of peace and voiced confidence that the lasting connections formed with Assam Rifles will endure over time.
Ultimately, the National Integration Tour exemplifies the enduring commitment of Assam Rifles to go beyond traditional security roles, reinforcing their dedication to nation-building, youth empowerment, and strengthening ties with the people of Manipur.
