Personnel of the Village Defence Force (VDF) from Heirok provided financial assistance totaling ₹1,38,500 to the family of Laishram Budha, a deceased member who passed away on December 28 after a long illness. Budha, son of Laishram Tampha, had been serving as a VDF personnel. The funds were presented to his wife, Laishram ongbi Suni, in an event attended by VDF commanders from various companies. Commander Khumanthem Gunadhor highlighted that the VDF has historically offered support to bereaved families, particularly to alleviate household struggles, and pledged to continue this aid, including for the education of Budha’s children. He also urged the Manipur Government to establish a compensation scheme for VDF personnel who die in service, pointing out the current lack of government support. The VDF was formed in 2008 in response to public demands for enhanced security following a tragic shooting incident during the Yaosang festival in Heirok, which resulted in casualties. The financial aid event saw participation from multiple VDF commanders, underscoring the collective commitment to support their members’ families.
