Disturbed and Dissatisfied over the Government’s inability to solve the ongoing crisis in Manipur even after 7 months inspite of the presence of heavy security forces by Delhi Meitei Co-Ordinating Committee (DMCC) in Association with Meitei Alliance and Global Manipur Federation (GMF) jointly organized a Global Sit-in-protest calling upon Government of India to Deliver Peace, Security and Harmonious Community Co-existence in Manipur.
A joint statement of three organizations, issued to media houses said that after 3rd May 2023, the Government of India deployed an additional 60,000 central force personnel and top-ranking administrative officials. It has appointed a Security Advisor and a new DGP for Manipur to strategize and execute the responsibility of restoring law and order. Unfortunately, it has been more than seven months now there is no adequate security measures taken to protect the people of Manipur. Also the burden of protecting Meetei villages, properties and lives have been left to Meitei civilians and their will.
The statement also added that recently, Manipur State Government decided to withdraw from Suspension of Operation, that is tripartite agreements involving Kuki armed organisations, the Central Government of India, and the state Government of Manipur. The Government of Manipur justified its decision by saying that Kuki armed oganizations that is under Suspension of Operation have violated the ground rules.
The statement also alleged that those engaging in Suspension of Operation are responsible for cross-border infiltration, illicit drug business, unlawful poppy farming, encroachment on and destruction of forests, kidnapping and murder for ransom money, highway extortion, robbery, and political inabilities. Unfortunately, the Union Home Ministry is rejected the Manipur Government’s decision. It becomes clear that the Government of India has held onto the Suspension of Operation thereby, directly or indirectly allowing the concerned Kuki armed organisations to operate with impunity.
