If the government do not take constructive action on their requests by December 28, the Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) will have to cease operations. In a news release, MPDF lamented that the memorandum it sent to the Governor on December 10, 2025, about ongoing threats and extortions, had received no favourable response or action. It stated that there are grave hazards to people’s lives and property as a result of these threats and illegal demands. The MPDF stated that until sufficient protection, intervention, and resolution are guaranteed, they have no choice but to close petrol stations.

Petrol pump dealers are currently in a very difficult situation where it is practically impossible for them to continue operating their business. On the one hand, dealers who comply with unlawful demands run the risk of being summoned and subject to disciplinary measures by state authorities, including the possibility of NSA invocation. However, it stated that their lives have been directly threatened as a result of their unwillingness to cooperate. “The Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity is profoundly sorry that the public may be inconvenienced by the closure of gas stations. However, as dealers are currently at a crossroads of life and death, we sincerely want the people of Manipur to understand and offer their support,” it continued.
