Fresh reports of firing from hilltops have emerged from Manipur’s Imphal East district, raising fresh concerns over security in sensitive areas of the state.According to local inputs, suspected militants opened fire from elevated positions targeting Meitei villagers and farmers in Pukhao on Friday. The area has witnessed similar incidents in the past. Residents said the firing created panic among villagers, many of whom have been avoiding fields due to fear of attacks.

Pukhao had earlier seen a serious incident in which one villager was killed and another sustained a bullet injury in the arm after militants reportedly came down from nearby hill areas and confronted locals at close range. The latest incident has again triggered fear among residents, who have been demanding stronger security presence in the area.Meanwhile, reports of heavy firing also emerged from Sinakeithel in Ukhrul district on Thursday. Sources indicated that the exchange of fire took place between suspected Kuki and Naga armed groups. While there has been no official confirmation on casualties, the incident has added to the already tense situation in the hill districts.

There are also growing allegations from local groups that armed miscreants are being allowed to build new bunkers in some areas. Several videos have surfaced on social media claiming to show such activities. However, authorities have not yet verified these claims.
