As part of the National Road Safety Month 2026 initiative, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer organized a free eye check-up camp for drivers at the Eye Outpatient Department (EYE OPD) of the District Hospital in Churachandpur. The event, supervised by eye specialist Dr. Ginthianmung, the District Nodal Officer (DNO) for the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI) under the National Health Mission (NHM), saw a substantial turnout of commercial vehicle drivers seeking vision assessments.
The primary focus of the eye examinations included checks on standard vision and colour vision capability, with the overarching goal of enhancing road safety. By detecting and addressing potential vision problems promptly, the camp sought to mitigate the risks of accidents caused by impaired vision, thereby saving lives and promoting safer driving practices.
Dr. Ginthianmung emphasized the significance of regular eye examinations for drivers, urging them to prioritize their eye health as a preventative measure against vision-related mishaps. The event was designed not just as an immediate health service, but as an ongoing initiative aimed at fostering road safety awareness and ensuring the visual health of drivers in the Churachandpur district, ultimately contributing to the reduction of traffic accidents.
