Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has called for stronger action against drug trafficking following a significant cocaine seizure in Bengaluru.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recently seized 7 kilograms of cocaine, worth ₹14.69 crore, from two women—Laljamluvai of Manipur and Lalthangliani of Mizoram.
The incident has once again brought attention to the vulnerability of the northeastern region, which is often used as a route for drug smuggling.
“This arrest clearly highlights that the North East continues to serve as a key transit point for drugs,” Singh stated. He stressed the national impact of such incidents, saying, “These operations reveal the serious and widespread threat drug trafficking poses to our citizens.”
Urging enforcement agencies to intensify their efforts, Singh emphasized the need for long-term, coordinated strategies. “We must strengthen our counter-drug initiatives, dismantle these illegal networks, and work towards achieving a drug-free India,” he said.
Singh’s appeal underscores the growing concern over the use of the Northeast in drug trafficking and the urgent need for unified action.
