The Somsai Battalion of Assam Rifles, under the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), convened an Army Ex-Servicemen (ESM) interaction programme at Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles in Somsai, Ukhrul. This initiative successfully gathered 39 veterans from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, highlighting the enduring connection between current military personnel and the veteran community in the hill regions of Manipur.

The event was led by the Deputy Inspector General from Headquarters 10 Sector Assam Rifles, who warmly welcomed the veterans, fostering a conducive environment for open dialogue. Key topics of discussion included pension issues, medical assistance, documentation support, and facilities under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), as well as mechanisms for grievance redressal. The veterans’ concerns were documented, with promises of timely resolutions, as emphasized in a press release from IGAR(S).

Notably, among the attendees was Hony Capt James Shimrah, retired from the 14 Assam Regiment, who, at 82 years old, represented the senior-most veteran present. His presence underscored the legacy of service that continues to inspire the younger generations.

Overall, the programme reinforced trust, camaraderie, and institutional bonds while emphasizing the significance of veteran welfare in enhancing community ties during a critical time for Manipur. It illustrated a united effort between veterans and serving military personnel aimed at bolstering unity and mutual support within the community.
