Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla attended the 2026 North-East Seminar in Imphal, themed “Resurgent Manipur: Framework for Stability & Sustained Growth.” He emphasized Manipur’s resilience, rich cultural heritage, and strategic location, alongside the collaborative efforts of the government, security forces, and local communities in promoting peace, stability, and long-term development. In his address, the Governor highlighted the need for reconciliation, social cohesion, strong governance, effective border management, and cooperation among society’s various factions to address organized crime and enhance community engagement.
He underscored Manipur’s significant potential in sectors like agriculture, horticulture, handloom, handicrafts, eco-tourism, and sports, praising the entrepreneurial spirit of the Manipuri people and the global accomplishments of its athletes. Bhalla advocated for increased investment in education, skill development, connectivity, and youth empowerment to pave the way for a stable and prosperous future.
The seminar included three plenary sessions, starting with “Manipur at Crossroads,” chaired by Lt Gen CA Krishnan (Retd), who provided an insightful overview of the complex security landscape, governance challenges, and regional geopolitical shifts affecting Manipur. Rami N. Desai, an anthropologist and Senior Fellow at the India Foundation, presented on “External Dynamics as a Catalyst for Internal Turmoil in Manipur,” analyzing cross-border influences, demographic pressures, illegal immigration, narcotics networks, and broader geopolitical factors affecting the state’s stability. The event was attended by key figures, including Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DG Assam Rifles Vikas Lakhera, and academic representatives from Manipur University, alongside students and senior officers of the Assam Rifles.
