Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho visited the family of the deceased BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte in Churachandpur district, assuring them of state government support. During his visit, he offered a traditional shawl to Valte’s wife and sons, honoring the late legislator who represented the Thanlon constituency and was injured in a mob attack during early ethnic conflicts in Manipur in 2023. Valte succumbed to his injuries on February 21, 2023, in a private hospital in Gurugram. Diplomatic discussions were also held between Dikho and representatives of the Zomi Coordination Committee (ZCC) regarding justice for Valte’s family and the organization’s demands. The ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur, which began in May 2023 following a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ opposing the Meitei’s demands for Scheduled Tribes status, has resulted in approximately 260 deaths and widespread displacement of thousands.
