Manipur’s Chief Minister has announced a significant development in the state’s ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration, revealing that 5,457 cases have been detected. Among these cases, the biometric data of 5,173 individuals has been recorded, marking a substantial step towards managing the issue. The authorities have initiated deportation procedures for the detected illegal immigrants, underscoring the seriousness with which the state is tackling the issue. This move comes amidst rising concerns over the impact of illegal immigration on the indigenous population of Manipur.

However, amidst these efforts, the Chief Minister noted criticism from certain homegrown groups, predominantly based in western countries. These groups have been accused of adopting a communal tone and portraying the state’s actions as violations of religious freedom.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the survival of indigenous communities is at stake, and the government is determined to address this issue decisively. He highlighted the irony of these groups’ silence regarding western countries’ stance on illegal immigration while vehemently opposing actions taken in Manipur. Such selective outrage, he suggested, raises suspicions about the motives and agendas of these groups, particularly those with secessionist tendencies.
