Manipur Congress Vice President Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip has appealed to Naga organisations to lift the ongoing bandh between Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, highlighting the severe impact it has had on the Kuki community. The bandh, enforced by Naga groups, has disrupted vital travel and relief efforts in the conflict-affected area.
In a letter to the President and Secretary of the Foot Hills Naga Co-ordinating Committee (FNC), Dr. Haokip urged an immediate suspension of the blockade due to the ongoing humanitarian crisis. While conveying respect for the FNC, he acknowledged the pain caused by the ethnic conflict that began on May 3, 2023, resulting in loss of life, property damage, and deepening divisions.
He noted signs of progress in peace and reconciliation, largely due to efforts from all communities, including Naga groups. Emphasizing compassion, he requested the FNC to consider the hardships faced by displaced populations and allow relief work to proceed unhindered.
The appeal was also sent to RNC, LNC (Eastern Zone), and RNYM/OM-NTL, urging unity and cooperation. Dr. Haokip expressed hope that dialogue and empathy would lead to healing in the troubled region.
