A joint river cleaning initiative led by the Palem Panthou Village Level Federation, in partnership with EcoNetwork Manipur, took place at the Heirok Wangjing River in the Heirok Part-I area. The event was aimed at removing waste and plastic from the river and promoting environmental cleanliness. EcoNetwork Manipur President Shinthangamba Laishram addressed the public, urging them to refrain from disposing of household waste into the river and to support proper waste collection practices for a healthier environment. He encouraged locals to engage in responsible waste disposal by utilizing household waste collection services rather than contaminating water bodies with waste products. The initiative received support from Self Help Groups under the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission, emphasizing the importance of ongoing community participation in restoring the river’s cleanliness. Organizers called for collective responsibility, appealing to citizens to avoid dumping waste materials into the river to ensure the preservation of clean and safe water for future generations.
