A central team led by Dr. Krishan Kumar, Managing Director of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), visited Bishnupur district to review the progress of major irrigation projects under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), particularly the Extension, Renovation, and Modernisation (ERM) of the Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) Project.
A review meeting was held with Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, district officials, and nodal officers. K. Kiran Singh, Additional Chief Engineer-I of the Water Resources Department, presented a comprehensive status update on the LLI project, approved in 2022 under PMKSY’s Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP).
The team assessed critical components of the project—head works, pumping stations, and canal systems—and reviewed progress achieved over the past five years. Challenges affecting the project timeline were also discussed, along with strategies for its timely completion.
The team visited key field locations including Moirang Low Level Canal, Thamnapokpi, Naranseina, Sunushiphai, and Pump House I at Ningthoukhong. Farmers shared positive feedback on improved irrigation. Dr. Kumar recommended adopting schemes like PM-KUSUM for solar-powered irrigation. Senior engineers and staff from the Water Resources Department also joined the visit, reflecting the Centre’s commitment to enhancing irrigation infrastructure and farmer welfare.
