Under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) initiative, a post-operative follow-up was conducted for five cataract patients from Sugnu, organized by the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) under the supervision of the District Administration Kakching. These patients were previously identified during a cataract detection and surgery camp on December 24, 2025, coinciding with the Good Governance Week, where their surgeries were also performed at the Kakching Eye Hospital.

In addition, pre-operative medical examinations took place for another five patients identified during a separate cataract detection event on December 22, 2025, at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex in Kakching, with their surgeries scheduled for the following day.

Notably, special drives aimed at cataract detection and surgery for senior citizens were organized earlier by the DSWO in partnership with the Medilane Foundation, Imphal Eye Clinic, and Kakching Eye Hospital. These camps occurred at two locations: the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Complex on December 22, 2025, and at KBM Kakching Khunou and Sugnu Municipality Office in Sugnu Bazar on December 24, 2025. The initiative underscores a concerted effort to enhance healthcare services for the elderly, focusing on cataract treatment and prevention efforts within the community.
