In a significant crackdown along the Manipur-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles troops have dealt a blow to drug trafficking operations, apprehending a 27-year-old trafficker and seizing a substantial cache of Brown Sugar with a street value of Rs 1.32 crore. The operation, conducted during a domination patrol, marks a major breakthrough in efforts to curb the illicit drug trade in the region.
The operation unfolded in Songdoi village, Churachandpur district of Manipur, on May 1st, where the suspect, identified as Nangzading from New Lamka, Churachandpur, was intercepted with 660 grams of Brown Sugar cleverly concealed within 50 soap cases. The discovery underscores the sophisticated methods employed by traffickers to evade detection and emphasizes the scale of the underground drug economy.
The prompt action by Assam Rifles not only disrupts the activities of drug syndicates but also acts as a deterrent to others involved in similar illicit enterprises. Following the apprehension, both the suspect and the confiscated contraband were handed over to the Singhat police station for further investigation and legal proceedings, showcasing a collaborative effort between Assam Rifles and local law enforcement agencies in combating the drug trafficking crisis.
