Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh traveled to New Delhi on Friday, igniting speculation about the potential restoration of a popular government in Manipur as President’s Rule approaches its expiry next month. Singh, also the leader of the BJP legislature party, indicated to reporters at Imphal airport that his visit pertains to electoral matters. Concurrently, Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi has also departed for the capital. Notably, President’s Rule in Manipur, which has been under central governance since February 13, 2025, is set to expire next month, leading to widespread political speculation about reinstating a local government without further extending central rule. This situation follows a recent meeting in New Delhi where central BJP leaders gathered all state party MLAs, enhancing hopes for government formation in Manipur. Although no official statements have been released, Singh’s visit seems to accelerate discussions regarding the political roadmap for the state.
