Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary (Transport & TCI), conducted an inspection of several transportation facilities in Imphal, emphasizing the need for readiness and operational effectiveness. His inspection included the first Multi-Level-Parking facility at Nagamapal, the basement parking of Ema Keithel, and a proposed parking site for E-rickshaws at Nagamapal near Ema Keithel-1. Accompanied by Kh. Diana Devi (Director, Transport), Chiphang Cecelia Sopemia (SP/Traffic), and others, Bajpai discussed critical aspects including the parking capacity for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers, power backup, maintenance strategies, and timelines for project completion.
The ACS instructed the CEO of Smart City to ensure that the remaining work is completed promptly, implement adequate signage for public guidance, and prepare the facilities for inauguration by the end of March 2026. He emphasized the need for a waiting shed for users of the Multi-Level-Parking. Furthermore, he requested the CEO to submit a feasibility report for a second Multi-Level-Parking site in the same area without delay.
During the inspection, Bajpai found the basement parking of Ema Keithel-1 closed and misused by unauthorized vendors. He directed the Smart City CEO to clean and illuminate this area, aiming for its operational readiness by the end of March 2026. He also visited the International State Bus Terminal (ISBT), which reopened on January 22; he expressed satisfaction with its usage for boarding inter-state and intra-state buses, as well as for transporting luggage. The ACS underscored the importance of maintaining cleanliness at the ISBT, advising the Sweepers’ Association to keep the facility free of litter and plastic bottles.
Additionally, he instructed the District Transport Officer (DTO) of Imphal East to organize parking efficiently within the ISBT premises for Transport and Taxation Department staff vehicles. He recommended that DTOs of both Imphal East and West use interceptor vehicles to monitor and enforce traffic law compliance. He proposed a special drive against traffic violators in collaboration with the Traffic Department to enhance road safety and compliance in the jurisdiction.
