In a significant event that bolsters the State’s forest management apparatus, a Pipping Ceremony was held at the state Forest Headquarters in Sanjenthong, Imphal, to honor 68 newly promoted Deputy Rangers from the Forest Department of Manipur, including six women officers. This ceremony marked the formal promotion of six officers in 2025 and 62 in 2026, transitioning them from the rank of Forester to Deputy Ranger. The event, presided over by Anurag Bajpai, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, included the ceremonial pinning of rank insignia, symbolizing the new responsibilities and leadership roles entrusted to these officers.

During the ceremony, Bajpai congratulated the officers on their promotion, emphasizing the commitment and perseverance they demonstrated throughout their service. He pointed out that this achievement is a source of pride for the department but also highlights the increased responsibilities that accompany their new roles. The Deputy Rangers are regarded as pivotal to field operations and are expected to contribute significantly to preserving Manipur’s natural heritage.

Bajpai stressed that the promotion signifies not just personal achievement but also a solemn duty towards the Forest Department’s mission. The rank insignia, representative of accountability and discipline, requires these new Deputy Rangers to protect forests, prevent illegal activities, implement conservation initiatives, and support forest-dependent communities.

Given the growing pressures facing Manipur’s forest ecosystems, including illegal logging, encroachment, and habitat loss, the elevation of these 68 officers is seen as a vital enhancement of the department’s operational capabilities. With clearer authority and command responsibilities, the Deputy Rangers are expected to enforce forest laws more effectively, monitor vulnerable areas, respond timely to offences, and coordinate with local communities and law enforcement.

The appointment of these officers aims to strengthen protection measures in sensitive ecological zones, reduce illegal activities, and facilitate better execution of conservation projects. The initiative is projected to enhance forest governance, ecological security, and public trust in the Forest Department’s sustainable management efforts. Bajpai concluded the ceremony by wishing the newly appointed Deputy Rangers success in their endeavors and encouraging them to uphold high standards of integrity and professionalism in their duties, thus reaffirming the department’s commitment to forest conservation.
