The District Administration of Jiribam, together with the District Transport Office, commemorated the 37th National Road Safety Month in 2026, under the theme “Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan” or “Road Safety, Safety to Life,” held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. During the event, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, unveiled several initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety awareness within the district. These initiatives include distributing helmets to motorcyclists, and providing pamphlets and stickers regarding traffic rules to the public throughout Jiribam.
An upcoming bike rally scheduled for January 22 is planned to further promote road safety. The Deputy Commissioner also urged the District Transport Office to coordinate quiz competitions and a poster campaign in partnership with local law enforcement, health departments, and educational institutions. Additionally, he recommended that the Public Works Department mark roads across the national highway and other significant roads in the area to improve safety visibility.
Furthermore, Krishna Kumar highlighted the importance of the newly operational District Transport Office, which offers streamlined services for driving licenses, vehicle registration, and other transportation-related needs to the public. As part of the observance, he took the Road Safety Pledge in front of senior officials including Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey, ADC Jiribam Th. Manoranjan Singh, SDO Jiribam L. Tarajeet Singh, DTO Jiribam M. Vikash, and officials from various departments.
Earlier that same day, a social service camp took place at the Jiribam Higher Secondary Playground—designated as the venue for the upcoming 77th Republic Day Celebration. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the playground and encouraged departmental heads to collaborate effectively to ensure a successful Republic Day event. This social service camp engaged officials from the Jiribam Municipal Council and various department heads, focusing on promoting community service and preparing for the Republic Day celebrations.
