In a notable achievement for Manipur, eleven officers from the State Forest Service (SFS) have been promoted to the Indian Forest Service (IFS), approved by the Government of India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, in an order dated March 16, 2026. This promotion, part of the 2023 Select List established under the Indian Forest Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations of 1966, was sanctioned by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to address promotion quota vacancies within the Manipur cadre of the IFS. The promoted officers include Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee, Napolean Rongmei, Waikhom Romabai, Laishram Gitla, S.L. Niangthianhoi, Mahamuda Begum, Elangbam Nirmala Chanu, Dr. Rebika Soibam Chanu, Chinpilhing Kipgen, D. John Sha, and Vahneichong Singson. The IFS is crucial for the management and conservation of forests, wildlife, and environmental resources in India. This development is anticipated to bolster governance, reinforce conservation initiatives, and infuse experienced leadership into the national cadre, garnering widespread support for both the officers and the overall capacity of Manipur’s forest administration.
