The newly formed government in Manipur, led by Chief Minister Y Khemchand, is actively pursuing major infrastructure development projects despite recent political upheaval, including the imposition of President’s Rule. A significant allocation of ₹5 crore per constituency has been approved for enhancing road connectivity and related infrastructure. On Wednesday, Kakching Constituency MLA, M. Rameshwar, inspected newly constructed roads using paver block technology near the Multipurpose Hall at Kakching Mayai Leikai, expressing the government’s commitment to prioritizing road development and ensuring the quality and longevity of these projects. The newly constructed roads are designed to endure for 7 to 10 years, employing paver block technology to mitigate waterlogging issues, with additional upgrades involving machine-based blacktopping for roads extending up to 600 meters.
Moreover, the government is also focused on improving water supply in Kakching, initiating pipeline installations under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme to guarantee sufficient water access. In areas where gravity-based supply is impractical, overhead tanks are being installed. Further development projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are underway in areas like Irengband, Sora, and Pallel, with a ₹7 crore project submitted to the Central Government for funding through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Ahead of the forthcoming elections, MLA Rameshwar is urging public cooperation to maximize development efforts across Kakching.
In a separate incident, a road accident occurred on NH 102 Imphal–Moreh road, resulting in the death of Md. Sahir Khan (22) and injuries to two others, Md. Jorman (35) and Md. Farid (19). The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured are receiving treatment. Police have begun an investigation into the accident.
Additionally, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charges against three members of the proscribed terrorist organization, People’s Liberation Army (PLA), following an attack on an Assam truck in 2025, which resulted in the deaths of two paramilitary personnel and injuries to five others. The charges were formally presented before the NIA Special Court in Imphal.
